Firstly i got there and had some xrays taken (surely these should have been done before). Not sure why, didn't seem too important. Then he took some pictures of my teeth so he can track my progress.
Next the dentist told me he had to do some filing to create gaps for the teeth to move into. I had heard this term over and over again on the internet so was prepared. However i preshumed it would be with some form of electric drill/machine whereas it was a metal wire. He just forced the rough metal wire between my teeth and rubbed it back and forth. He did that between all my front teeth. Then swapped to a thin paper one - looked just like sandpaper. The actual filing did not hurt - just like a viberation. But the pressure of his hand resting on my teeth really hurt!
I could taste blood and there was blood all over his gloves which worried me slightly, but i didn't feel him nic my gums or any real pain. Then he put the inman in - with difficultly. I was just waiting to hear that the lab had made it wrong. After about ten minutes of fiddeling with it he managed to position it correctly.
I was then told that i need composite blobs putting on my teeth so it would stay in place.
But i previously had asked and had not been told i would need them and with getting married in 10 weeks i was worried. He reassured me though and said that if my treatment wasn't completed that they could take them off for me - and put them back on after my honeymoon.
He then taught me how to put it in and take it out. I had to sign a form saying if i broke it i had to pay for a new one! So i will be very careful when removing it and re-fitting it!
And that was that. I now have it in my mouth. Feel like a horse with a bit. Lots of slavia. Bad lisp. Cant close my teeth together. Can feel pressure on my teeth though which can only be good sign. I have to return in 3 weeks!
Here are some pictures ---
This is what my teeth currently look like-

Sorry this is upside down.
The lump is the composit blob. I personally think its pretty big, my lip keeps catching on it -
Hi Ellie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to do a blog on this!! I'm going to a cosmetic dentist tomorrow to discuss the option of having an inman aligner. I too had a brace when I was younger for about a year and my teeth were all lovely and straight. My 2 front teeth are still fairly straight however the tooth next to my front teeth on the right side now slightly protudes which I'm very self concious of as when I talk it almost looks like I don't have a tooth there where it has kind of moved up and out. Really hope the inman alinger will work for me, my dentist had suggested veneers but they seem very evasive to your teeth. So when I read about the inman aligner and how quickly the results are this looked ideal. Can I ask how much yours were and how long it will take for your treatement to be complete?
I look forward to reading about your progress.
Katy xx
Hello,
ReplyDeleteHope the cosmetic dentist consultation went well. My treatment is cost £1995 - but i have taken it out on a pyament plan so with the interest its £2060. My original quote was only £1400 but after the lab saw my impressions the upped it because of the clear retainers i will need afterwards. - maybe upto about 12 different one. They've said 10-12 weeks with the inman and then its just playing it by ear with the retainers. I wish i could to it the other way around and have the retainers first so my worst teeth (the canines) were fixed first.
Good luck if you go for the inman

Hey Ellie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for replying, the cosmetic dentist seems to think invisalign would work better for me. Is that what you'll be having with the 12 different retainers? I'm going to get a second opinion as invisalign is more expensive than the inman and takes longer. The dentist also said something about how the inman aligner is better at pushing teeth forward rather than pushing them backwards. And my main issue is the tooth next to my front teeth protudes outwards similar to your canines, and like you that's what bothers me the most. Is that what the dentist said to you?
The dentist quoted me £3,500 for invisalign but I've seen online that another dentist near me does the whole package for £2,400. So I guess it just depends what the price comparison is with the inman. I'd prefer to pay between £1,500 - £2,000.
